Visiting a Moroccan Steam Bath or “Hammam”

One of the essential experiences that those on all inclusive Morocco holidays should enjoy is the traditional steam bath, otherwise known as a Hammam. These steam baths are centres of health and relaxation, and they can be an absolutely wonderful experience and an insight into the history and culture of the region during your all inclusive Morocco holidays.

If you would like to visit a Hammam during your all inclusive Morocco holidays, you have a few choices. Some hotels will have their own private hammams. At the higher end facilities, private baths and scented massages are an option. You could visit a “tourist hammam” where you are pampered and scrubbed by staff members, or you could go to a traditional “popular hammam” where the locals go and you wash and scrub yourself. The popular hammams are much cheaper, however if you don’t speak French or Arabic the experience could be a bit intimidating, which is why some visitors prefer to relax in the tourist hammams during their all inclusive Morocco holidays.

If you are visiting a popular hammam, you will need to take a scrubbing mitten and your own towel. In a female hammam, women might bathe in swimwear, underwear, or in the nude. In a male hammam, nudity is forbidden so be sure to bring something to wear.
